OGL at the Darwin Festival 2023!

Do you want the inside scoop on the Alabama Undersea Forest? On Wednesday, February 15, at 11:00 a.m., Ocean Genome Legacy’s Director, Dan Distel, will be speaking at Salem State University’s annual Darwin Festival, a weeklong event that celebrates the work of Charles Darwin.

In Distel’s talk, “Life in an ancient undersea forest: The secrets of a marine ecosystem powered by wood,” he’ll highlight the incredible wood-eating bivalves and wood-associated marine invertebrates that make their home in the 60,000-year-old bald cypress forest buried in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Alabama.

Distel’s talk will be held in person in Vets Hall, Ellison Campus Center, North Campus  and streamed online.
